“Ask questions, do your homework; because once you let these guys in, your world’s going to change forever, and there’s not a thing you’re going to be able to do about it”

We are objecting to three 120m high moving industrial machines being built next to where people live. We are not opposed to green energy, we are not anti-Honda, we are not NIMBYs.

It is not unreasonable to insist that turbines are sited responsibly. We will have to live next to these gigantic, noisy, moving machines for at least 25 years.

HONDA: WE WON'T APPEAL!!!

This is of course great news, and it is reassuring to know that Honda have finally taken notice of their neighbours.

As for illwind, we shall remain because we have created something which should always be around in order to help those who are faced with the same threat. This website will always be available to all those who wish to learn from our experience. We must also not forget that Swindon Borough Council Planners will, no doubt, still wish to pursue the widespread and indiscriminate construction of hundreds of wind turbines in Swindon and the surrounding countryside, as was stated in the draft core strategy. This means that residents from other areas of Swindon will start their own residents groups to oppose these plans when they are submitted.

SWINDON COUNCILLORS PUT PEOPLE FIRST:
APPLICATION
REJECTED
The Planning Committee rejected both the two turbine AND three turbine options!

Over 500 people came to the special planning meeting at the Wyvern Theatre.
Well done to all of you who attended and spoke at what was a truly memorable event.

We await to see what Honda's plans for green, sustainable energy will be, however illwind will continue to keep our community informed.

We will continue to provide updates as and when they happen !!!

MAJOR FLAWS IN THE TURBINE APPLICATION MEAN RESIDENTS WILL SUFFER - FACT!
Through the generosity of residents, illwind have been able to employ MAS Environmental to provide us with an independant analysis of the noise data contained in the Honda/Ecotricity turbine application.

The report identifies major issues with the noise assessment in Ecotricity’s Environmental Statement and concludes:

The application should be refused until further information regarding wind shear can be supplied for the site and until noise at night time can be mitigated at the following properties: South Marston - Greenfields, South Marston - Highworth Road, Highworth Road, Fitzwarren House, South Marston - South West, Catsbrain Farm, Stratton St Margaret.”

We've told the Council, will they listen?

Please see the "Our Documents" Page for the full report along with our message to the planning department.

UPDATES:

Our new DVD which is being distributed to as many homes as possible is now on You Tube, and can be viewed in the video section of the "Information and Media" page.

WIND TURBINE ACCIDENT STATISTICS:

With companies like Ecotricity trying to build windfarms next to residential areas, the likelyhood of someone being hurt, or worse, is increasing. Turbines regularly have faults ranging from catching fire (They have to burn out as the fire brigade cannot extinguish a turbine on fire) and blades shattering, to entire turbines collapsing. It is a matter of time before tragedy strikes. Are you happy to be put at risk?

BLADE THROW:
A report on blade throw which was kept secret but has recently been obtained under a Freedom Of Information suit. Contains details such as blades shattering and pieces being thrown up to 1.3km.
A school is around 900m from the Honda turbines.
This report was produced by the government's Health and Safety laboratory for the Health and Safety Executive.

The pictures above are intended as an interpretation of the visual impact on the homes shown which are 800m in the top picture, taken from Rettingham Way, Stratton and the the lowere image 320m from the nearest turbine at Hondas North Gate. We can only imagine the noise generated. The location is on Highworth Rd, near the new giant B&Q warehouse which can just be seen under the tree on the left. For more images please click HERE.

    THEY WON'T AFFECT ME

The image above clearly illustrates the sheer size of the turbines. The small white square is a house. It could very well be your house, and unless you live in a deep hole in the ground then you will be affected by the turbines.

They will be visible for many miles around, will dominate our area and remember, there's three of 'em. If you live nearby, then you really need to find out about flicker, wind sheer and low frequency sound waves, and also ask the question: just how essential and appropriate is it that the turbines are placed so close to residential areas?

There will be information contained in this site, and links to other areas of information, but the most important thing is that if you do not wish to object to the proposed turbines then please be certain about what you are approving.

The above image has been adapted to illustrate the relevance to Swindon but was originally included at: http://www.westonturbines.org.uk where you can find a wealth of information.
